Severing Development

Instead of completely abolishing homework, No Homework Policy could be revised with homework lessened, thus, giving the students more free time while also learning at home.

Through several months, the policy faced several revisions on the congress, but the Department of Education (DepEd) sec. Leonor Briones agreed the most with the Sorsogon rep. Evelina Escudero who proposed the total prohibition of homework.

Meanwhile, the policy has its earlier course which is the Memorandum No. 392 of 2010 wherein dictates that no homework or assignments must be given on weekends for students to be able to enjoy their free time.

Frankly speaking, Escudero’s proposed version is a candidate for the dim-witted set of education laws together with mass promotion, both giving students quite the easy life that is halts learning. I mean, without hard work, there is no actual knowledge that came from experience, so what’s the point?

To explain, school works are crucial for learning no matter how tedious they are. It is one of the process that teachers follow in order to know whether you learn or not, while also being a helpful reviewer for the students themselves.

As earlier implied, abolishing homework is not efficient, and the authorities should realize that they are not there for the students to live a better life, but rather help them learn in the best way possible.

Sec. Briones agreed on homework being no longer required due to lack of free time related to the K-12 strain issues. But clearly a red flag, this will only spark imbalance, removing one of the important parts of the education children experience.

Instead, if you want to ease the burden of the students, consider lessening their numbers rather than completely removing a vital process towards intellect. If there are several complaints over the requirements of K-12, then maybe instead of revising a hopeless policy, try thinking of improving the curriculum also.

When in doubt, the best choice is to compromise. Homework should be lessened, not abolished. These things are crucial for development and if there are problems regarding these workloads, and then maybe act out on putting them under control.
