CAYS Volley Squad cements history defeating Beda; Secures Fourth in Municipals

CAYS Blue Whales made an outstanding redemption against San Beda Red Lions, pulling off a straight double set triumph, 2-1 enough to finish Bedan tyranny over CAYS in their volleyball tourney for the 2019 Municipal Meet at Manuel I. Gymnasium, August 10.

Led by their team captain Stephanie Barilla, the Caysmerinian Spearheads recovered from a first set defeat, 17-25, to stunning the Red Lions going berserk on the second and third frames, 25-13, 15-12.

Barilla tapped out a game-high 21 points,together with Alyssa Joy Tapawan adding nine points to set their squad dominating over Bedan stronghold.

Allysandra Tapawan proved her excellence as her sister’s, inserting seven points followed by Quency Vertudazo with two points while their setter Tizza Azarcon balled a single ace on the whole match.

Meanwhile, the Red Lions stressed their might on the first quarter, snatching the head incentive, 3-0, to pull the rag the rest of the way while taking advantage to Blue Whales’ service errors, 17-25.

On the other hand, the Caysmerinian powerhouse conquered the second set with a quick head start with the Barilla-Tapawan duo forcing an emphatic 25-13.

Vowing no let down, the Blue Whales revved up their offense to seal their maiden victory from the Red Lions, the Tapawan sisters proved crucial upon taking down the Bedan opponents, 15-12.

Moreover, the Caysmerinian Spearheads managed to break out of their fifth placer last year into a hard earned fourth in the expense of Red Lion’s demise.

However, despite of their overwhelming first win from San Beda, the Blue Whales failed to escape from the fiery grasps of Sienna Guardians to settle for bronze.
