Barbosa stales Estrellado off to Provincials

Graduating wood pusher Emmanuel Barbosa showcased his known
chess tactics as he overshadowed his senior alumnus Gene Estrellado
with utmost dominance to bucket five-straight wins and cop the
championship on the 2019 Municipal tilt at Juan Sumulong Memorial
National High School, August 10.

The Caysmerinian swept all his games in the tourney with a high note
before pulling off a strong offensive against the alumni, clutching the
gold after tallying 5.0 score followed by Kertzee Gelua of Muzon
National High School (MNHS) with 4.5 points worthy of silver.

“Talagang nakakaproud ‘to sa akin as his coach and natupad din nila
yung pangako niyang ipapanalo niya ulit ito,” Coach Gerick Javonillo
remarked.

Barbosa came out strong on his first duel against the former teammate,
displaying his mastery of the Sicilian defense strategy to thwart his
opponent who settled to offensive tactics.

Estrellado attempted to return back to his winning ways- but with
Barbosa against him, the comeback rally turned futile as theCaysmerinian castled within his defense and finished the game with a
fork to end his final year with gold, hopefully, on the provincials.
